February 19th: At the end of the day’s trading, GREE’s shares had risen 130 yen from the prior day to 1,230 ($12.30) apiece. Roar of Cards, an entry in Capcom’s extremely popular Monster Hunter series developed jointly between Capcom and Grani, was released for GREE’s social games platform today. Speculation is that high expectations for this release buoyed GREE’s share price. (Capcom’s share price also rose 3.7 percent on the day of the title’s release.)
There is also speculation that short sellers are looking to short cover after GREE posted generally positive Q1 and Q2 combined results, contributing to the rise in the company’s share price.
